GHOST OF A GHOST
The endangered ghost orchid, Dendrophylax Lindenii, is Florida’s rarest orchid. It only grows in the State’s wet hammocks and swamps and is adapted to the seasonal rise and fall of water levels. The disturbance of the natural hydrology due to man’s poorly implemented flood control measures have reduced its habitat.
Worse, avid collectors have removed most of the wild orchids from our wetlands. Most of the collected orchids die within a year; thus, collectors kill what they most covet.
Why must we strive to own the things we love? Take a photo, make an image, a memory, and leave it, with love, where it grows.
